Strawberry

Disgraced Foreign Office clerk Laurence Jago finds himself aboard a mail-ship destined for Philadelphia entrusted with keeping an eye on an official who is carrying a crucial document – the Jay Treaty - designed to prevent America joining the French in their war against Britain. The ending is so good and satisfying and the story is so interesting, exciting and gripping throughout. Just like in Black Drop I was pleasantly surprised with how many brilliant twists and surprises kept me both glued to the pages and completely ignorant of what would happen. This is another fantastic book in the Laurence Jago series!

You can read this book as a standalone if you haven’t read Black Drop yet. 🙂-Thanks to Viper Books for a free copy. There’s are some deaths including some details of the deaths and blood mentioned.

And if so, who looks guilty - two French aristocrats fleeing The Terror, an American plantation owner, or the mysterious Irish actress who boards mid-voyage with a dancing bear in tow. I like how in this book he grows, especially after discovering something in a later part of the story. The whole adventure is so interesting and exciting throughout and once again Jago is a character you can’t help but like despite some of his flaws. Having left his employment at the Foreign Office in disgrace Laurence Jago has taken a job with his friend and newspaper reporter William Philpott.

The author explains enough of any important details that you don’t need to have read the first book to enjoy this one, however with some recurring characters it’ll definitely enhance your enjoyment of this book if you read Black Drop first as you’ll know what happened to Jago and the others before this. There are some funny moments too making it all the more memorable and with so many brilliant twists and surprises, it’s just such a good read!

. While at first not much happens aboard the ship other than winds keeping them stuck near French water, it soon become interesting when a French frigate is spotted approaching the ship.
