Overall I really can’t believe how much I’ve loved this book! Each chapter has its own title and I really liked all the pictures inside. This book was a total cover buy; sure it sounded pretty good, but I saw it and I needed it on my bookshelf. I have to mention the wonder that is the map of Eerie-on Sea and the splendiferous place and character names: Mrs Fossil’s Flotsamporium, The Whelk & Walrus Pub, Lady Kraken, Mr Eels: just brilliant!

the job's pretty much mine. Herbert Lemon works as the Lost and Founder at the Grand Nautilis Hotel. I'm quite happy with this review just being a gushy length of text saying how much I loved the book!

What happened to them? Violet Parma is looking for her lost parents, and she needs Herbie to help find them. Herbert Lemon an orphan who was adopted in to the Grand Nautilus Hotel has a good set up being the Lost-and-founder and making his way through life by living with the towns people.

The dark and spooky atmosphere of the setting Eerie-on-sea provides a great backdrop for story telling. Although the story definitely has a creepy feeling throughout, it’s not too scary for children to read and I’m sure many will really enjoy reading this. I was completely mesmerised by the wonderfully old-fashioned, timeless quality of this story which had a Victoriana feel, and a truly exceptional cast of characters. I really like the front cover image of the UK edition too, which if you look at it again after reading this book for a while, you’ll recognise it as a scene from one chapter.

Maybe it’s the seaside town setting with its strange legends or the odd shops like the book dispensary and that mermonkey, but something about this book just felt so brilliant and it was just so engrossing to read, I really couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait for the next book in the series! Every chapter leaves you desperate to read the next, and there are so many different things happening to the characters, but narrated in such a brilliant way, with a lot of good humour in the right places that I just loved reading this so much.
