I'm looking forward to reading more from the pen of Lesley Parr. Whilst out one day, he discovers a skull in a tree and sets out to solve the mystery of who it might be - aided by someone he'd previously not been so keen on.

When Jimmy finds himself exploring on his own, he finds a skull hidden in a tree trunk. It was sensitively written but still made me cry a fair few times. I bought this book for my 8yo son but ended up reading it first.

But then he finds a skull hidden in a tree and in a bid to uncover the truth Jimmy has to work out who to trust and learn the valleys secrets which will change this little village forever. It is clear that Florence was an outsider at school and treated horribly but, as she opens up more to Jimmy, he begins to understand more about her life in London. This is a real learning curve for him. I loved all the characters even the ones your not really suppose to.

I have no doubt it will be another classic! The other children who've been evacuated with him all have their own ways of responding to the upheaval and they don't always behave in the way Jimmy expects. There is hope and much happiness to be found. I’m not quite sure how to review this book as I went into it without having read the blurb.
