When I picked this book up, I thought the biggest bit of drama would be what happens when the lake freezes and the dead begin to wander…. As the story gripped me with its intense scenes and ominous atmosphere, the careful and shy romance that grows between Cooper and Peter was both sweet and heartbreaking. Foyles Bookshop explained the appeal of this novel perfectly in their review, saying “Wranglestone really has it all and is sure to delight readers with its characters and story, whilst also promoting the normalcy of gay relationships, without the usual trials and anguish of so many LGBT stories”.

And whilst their love blossoms they discover more about their community and the people they live with. It was this aspect that took me by surprise, and I especially enjoyed the last 25% of the book which was surprising and tense. !

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Will they survive the winter together or will they both end up as part of the Dead? The twists and turns and what the boys discover will change their world forever. Charlton has a subtle gift of being able to move mellifluously from gentle, poetic imagery, to panic-in-your-chest phrases which make this an exciting page turner and a great relaxing read, all in one.

As young love grows between them, they make a dark discovery about the true origins of Wranglestone which puts their lives in further danger as they begin to question the status quo. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 gay romance/zombie apocalypse with a thrilling twist.
