I couldn't put it down! Back and forth we go, tension ratcheting up until they finally meet in war. A fact I didn't know until reading was the Gernan Air Force could not belong to the Nazi Party. Early in the war he served training pilots, but in 1942 began his fighting career in North Africa, flying the workhorse of the Luftwaffe fighter fleet, the Messerschmitt Bf-109, which he flew for most of the war, until the last days, when he flew the new jet-propelled Me-262.

The Versailles Treaty prohibited Germany from the manufacture of engine-powered fixed-wing aircraft, so the future Luftwaffe cut its teeth by building and flying gliders. My father served in the same U. She would ask me narrate to her what I was reading and she wanted to hear more and more. My friend Chuck recommended this.

This event, unprecedented as it was, lasted maybe 15 or 20 minutes, and Stigler and Brown parted ways, never to encounter one another again until old age brought back their reflections, and an ultimate meeting. They both flew in B-24 Liberators and flew some of the most dangerous missions of the war together in the same squadron - 703rd Bomb Squadron, 445th Bomb Group - based at Tibenham, England.

Too bad. The way Franz cried for a bear who lost his life because of the evils of the Germans and the death of this bear hurt Franz as much as the loss of his own blood brother tells you the compassion and moral standing of the great man. Having flown as a certified Air Crewman in the USN, I could quickly relate to the crews of the bombers. Great job Adam!
