If you like YA and Murder Mysteries or enjoyed A Good Girls Guide to Murder then you want to pick up this book. The plot itself I think is really quite well thought out.

My lovely friend sent me a copy of this book as she had ended up with two and suggested to cheer me up that we buddy read the book starting January 4th. It also allowed us to see their unique development journey's through the book. It’s a good book for teens

For the first 50 pages I struggled to connect with either Audrey or Ivy, both had some unlikeable characteristics and their place within the story really wasn't clear. All I know is it's due out this year! Murder mysteries and "who dunnits" aren't my usual go to reads but after reading A Good Girl's Guide to Murder last year I found I actually quite enjoy them and this one was no different.

The development was steady with no dragging, again making this an easy novel to read. Leading you down the who dunnit path without giving away the villain. I loved reading this book and currently gutted that the release date for the second book hasn't been announced yet as I need to pre-order Two for Joy ASAP! The Magpie Society: One for Sorrow completely surpassed my expectations and both of us found that we ended up reading ahead of our schedule and finishing it in 3 and 4 days rather than the agreed 7.

Like why were these the two main characters, but as the plot progressed the pieces started to slot into place. My first reading of 2021 is The Magpie Society: One for Sorrow. This book is excellent at dropping bread crumbs and leaving you with a bunch of unanswered questions, unanswered questions that you need the second book to get more information on.

This is a YA book so the depth of their relationship isn't really delved into and the growth of their friendship is kind of like a light switch being turned on, I'd have liked more on that development. That being said I did enjoy their friendship and how both characters complimented each other. The writing style I found to be really simple, you can't miss that this book is Young Adult but it's the simple style that quickly pulls you into the plot and keep reading.
