Just like his first book, Son of the Sea is a quirky, seaside mystery and is perfect for KS2 readers! A magical tale, that had me smiling and giggling. What a gorgeous read this was, sat by the pool or on the beach, I had to keep having a swim.

I absolutely adored Richard’s first book, The Peculiar Tale of Tentacle Boy, so I was super excited to delve into this one. Have read both of Richard Pickard’s books, and Son of the Sea I’m pleased was as gripping as the first book. ! As a Pisces and lover of the sea, I found the character’s pull to the ocean very sweet and relatable, and I desperately want to visit Corallium!

I’m also sure many children will relate to his frustration with his protective parents! I loved Casper: he was a great main character and was the perfect example of how we should be celebrating differences. This a wonderfully written book, with plenty of intrigue and mystery.

Such a brilliant read, loved it from start to finish. Loved it! As always, I loved the descriptive language and Richard’s writing is always a great one to unpick with children as an example of great writing. 💚🐠
