This family however was the weirdest yet, one that really grew on me and dragged me on board with the whiplash dialogue. She was hilarious and just my type of humour. I genuinely loved this narrative, the idea of living in the woods in treehouses was perfect but obviously there wouldn’t be a story if that was all there was!

As for the story, I was disappointed to have been written by TJ Klune. Crying is a given with TJK novels, this was no exception. I own a fair few of Klune's books but in true Bookstagram style hadn't read any up until this one.

Technology and humanity are key features too and it definitely made me think about the advancement of AI and the future impact it could have on society. Some of my favourite moments were when the robots were trying to explain Vic’s human needs and body functions (‘evacuating his bowels’) to confused android Hap much to Vic’s frustration!

There are echoes of fairy tales - the book is inspired by Pinocchio and The Swiss Family Robinson - but for me it felt more of an homage to The Wizard of Oz. Victor and his dad are part of something much bigger than themselves and it was perfectly developed over the timeline to show us how important this story is.
