Amjad, the loving, gentle and supportive father; Saahil, the flawed but caring, protective brother and Zahra who ended up being my favourite. As a British Pakistani Muslim living in the UK, this is the first time that a book has felt this relatable and will always be close to my heart for that reason. Starting in 1993 and ending in 2017, we follow a British Muslim family through a wealth of life events and happenings.

Oftentimes mental health issues are rarely spoken about within South Asian families, and yet the emotional hardships suffered by each family member and the coping mechanisms they used to deal with trauma were all presented as core components of the narrative. Undoubtedly this is a moving story, but you will experience pretty much every emotion reading this, from anger to elation, frustration to horror.
