These standards have been used for years by putting sheet metal shields with a 1" air space on walls to reduce stove and stovepipe clearances and is a long standing recognized way to reduce radiant heat for closer clearances to combustibles. This refers to a stove that has not been thru laboratory safety testing like all modern stoves have been. This comes from the NFPA 211 National Fire Protection Association guidelines which are recognized by most building departments and may or may not be approved for reducing clearances in your situation.

We centered it on the mantle. This definitely works to keep the cabinets from getting too hot when the gas fire is on! Wish I had made this purchase years ago! We carefully folded the edge using cloth to protect finish and pliers.

We keep family pictures, collectables and even candles on the mantel now. I’ll be covering up the ugly outer edge of the insulation with 1” black aluminum U channel material I just ordered.
