. She's allowed almost no time outside of her room (read: cell) and is not allowed any possessions (clothing, pencils, books etc). Mauds character was complex and brilliant and showed strength in the fight for her survival and also revenge.

I just loved all elements of this book, I have no complaints whatsoever, it just drew me in. •really interesting setting of Angelton Lunatic Asylum which easily presents as claustrophobic. I can't wait to see what she has to offer next.

The past is like that. Maud's backstory slowly unravels to us through a past and present narrative. I had read the sample on Amazon before purchasing it and read all of the sample, and really wanted to carry on reading it, so of course I bought it immediately, it arrived the day after.

The little snippets of Mauds past were brilliantly interwoven throughout the narrative and leave you feeling shocked and heartbroken. ! I enjoyed it so due to it being so different than a lot of other fiction books I've read, it was quite fresh seeming (to me anyway). I'd say definitely give it a read!

•gorgeous dark, atmospheric descriptions to rival those of Wuthering Heights! The main character is a young woman (Maud) living in an insane asylum for reasons she and we don't know. Doctor Dimmond believes she is the perfect candidate for his studies. What a great debut!
