Then there’s Acting DCI Kelvin ‘KFC’ Caldwell, who you’ll love to hate! But when he hears about the bodies found, it reminds him of an unsolved case he worked on, seven years ago. Still you can’t with them all.

The Engine House by Rhys Dylan(A DCI Evan Warlow crime thriller – Book 1 in a new series)The novel begins with Colin and Julia, a couple in their sixties, hiking with their dog on a coastal path in Wales when they stumble across two corpses. ”…”No. There is uncertainty and loneliness. Competently written - descriptive of relationships, good and bad.
9 out of 10 The author has a beautiful writing style, and there are some lovely descriptions of people. The ending is over in a flash and this stretched credibility a bit but, overall, I liked the writing very much. And I thought I might bump into some old friends.
So wrong on both counts. Evan Warlow is now retired from the police force, where he worked for nearly thirty years. Reluctantly, after much heart-searching, he accepts even though he retired early on health grounds. Overall it’s an intelligent read and I will definitely be looking out for more books in this series.
