About this deal

Honest, funny, raw and brilliantly written: essays from Minnie Driver.

' and I wrote about how when I grew up, I wanted to be a farmer's daughter. When I was six, I wrote my first short essay. ‘Vital, heartfelt and surprising' Graham Norton. I really hope you enjoy it. A dazzling 'tell-most' memoir: poignant and laugh-out-loud funny scenes from the life of actor Minnie Driver. Now, though, I realise how apt that ambition was. A tell-most. My dad worked in insurance.

A book about how things not working out actually worked out in the end.

A sad ending but a real life story. How would I describe the book in three words and for me those words are heartfelt, awe-inspiring and honest. Don’t expect a celebrity tell all this is so much more.

Eric Orlowoski

She mentioned a moment in the bath where ‘ there could have been a eureka moment of clarity, a soulful call to acknowledge the journey instead of fixating on the destination, but I only felt the existential dread’ and I feel we have all had that moment in some form or another, it felt as though she was talking directly to me. The descriptions of her family dynamics were so well crafted and I absolutely loved the whole book.

Her childhood wasn’t really a childhood in the way I would class a childhood, she was forced to grow up incredibly early yet holds no resentment and instead only understanding, kindness and love for her parents which was incredibly touching. This was a true pleasure to read.

Her writing is thoughtful, witty, hilarious, unselfconscious and I really enjoyed my few days in quarantine with her while I inhaled the words. Fascinating and insightful. Made for a meaningful Sunday! This is a no holds bared memoir that delves with feelings and emotions ranging from bliss to torturous heartbreak and everything in-between.

I’ve been sick with covid and this book kept me company beautifully. I don’t remember the last time I read something so honest, personal and heartfelt. Her use of language is masterful and her descriptions vividly painted. Her mothers passing truly broke my heart and if your anything like me there will be tears so I’m warning you now to be prepared.

Great flow and she needs to write more. We’re all human. About anything, because it’s good reading. I must confess prior going into this book I only knew little of Minnie Driver and what I did know was mostly from her acting and what I had read in the press but my goodness this book was eye opening.
