Here’s the pros:- Affordable ZigbeeMQTT solution- 2371 supported devices at the time of writing- Very reliable, never had any issue with it- Easy to setup, just plug it in and install the Zigbee2MQTT Addon on HA- You'll never need to buy Hubs again from venders in most casesHere’s the cons:- Lack of OTA firmware updates for the DongleNOTE:I had an issue recently where the Aqara Roller Shade Driver E1 would not report their ON/OFF status and other entities. The packaging was sufficient and all paper/cardboard. Wi-Fi signal strength is not much of an issue for me as I have a lot of repeaters in my Zigbee network. I successfully connected Home Assistant to Alexa through an AWS Lambda integration, and it flawlessly controls my devices without relying on the cloud.

I decided to use it on a USB cable extension so that the unit could be somewhat concealed with only the antenna visible. As soon as I paired this with my existing network intermittent connection issues and Zigbee low signal areas were successfully dealt with. OK most of the ease was provided by Home Assistant.

0 USB Dongle is well-built, and I love that it seamlessly integrated with my HomeAssistant. With 16 connected devices, I haven't had a single problem. I am pleased with the design of the device, as it is well shielded in an aluminium case, and the antenna is better. What frustrates me is how long it took me to choose a device like this!

Integration is easy in many Smart Home Hubs like habitat, smart things, but I use home assistant and it works very well with ZHA and zigbee2mqtt. I run Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi with ZHA, and I settled on this well-supported Sonoff device with its 2652 chipset. Instruction and links are available elsewhere.

This is a recommended controller with Home Assistant and from this first days experience i would recommend it. The other thing that did not work very well on my old device was group automations to switch off multiple lights at the same time, but this one works well, so perhaps its throughput is better. Better range than the old one, the reason for buying.

The last task on my to-do list is to get a Z-wave controller to migrate my Z-wave devices and officially remove the SmartThings integration from my Home Assistant. I managed to get it fixed by upgrading the firmware to the latest version (20220219). As a fan of home automation technology, incorporating Zigbee devices into my network was a mandatory step. If you do the there is plenty of information on the internet.

It is range! However, it became unreliable, causing consistent drops in connection for all my Zigbee devices. As soon you live in a normal sized house, with proper walls, you need a lot of repeaters to get stable signals to all your end devices. ✔️
