You will not be disappointed with this lens ! I've bought a cheap step up ring so I don't go mad with too many different filter sizes! In view of what you could pay for a similar 'high-end' lens, I reckon that for the zoom flexibility and image fidelity (particularly if you aim high with your shooting parameters), this lens represents great value for money.

In real life terms this means you can zoom in on a rugby scrum if you're on the touch line. I have added a few shots taken of fast-moving windsurfers at a fair distance away and the shots have been very clear. The 55mm wide end does seem more useful than the 70mm on my other telephoto. It also comes with a soft bag for protection.

Take between 50-100 images and when stitched together you have a vista on the computer that you can zoom right into. I took this plus the 10-24 (which is great for landscapes) on a short country walk last weekend and not missed the mid range. In terms of focal lenghts this lens is a star performer from 55-200mm with almost no chromatic aberration, very sharp and good image quality overall (contrasty images), after 200mm to 300mm image quality decays a bit in terms of sharpness and contrast but it's still good and usable, chromatic aberration is slightly more noticeable at 300mm, viewing the image at 100%.

I pretty much expected it to be something of a compromise given the budget price, but I have been pleasantly surprised. Anything below 1/30-1/60 at 300mm doesn't seem to have worked for me (including some obvious double images at 1/8s). Along with the inherent instability as a result of the extra weight (in spite of its capable Vibration Reduction function), it therefore makes sense to use as high an ISO and shutter speed as is practical.

I will try and upload a few images to show what it can do when I get chance. Overall it comes down to this:Pros:- Sharp images from f/4. On a camera with only a dot, I expect it could be extremely frustrating! This is annoying, as at 300mm, autofocus can be a laborious process for this lens, and it would be nice to give it a helping hand before half pressing the shutter.

It has a metal mount, and is weather sealed. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of clarity and resolution in the resulting photo.

- Light which makes it good for travels. Fine adjustment takes care. However, the vibration reduction isn't completely magic (maybe wishful thinking on my part, but some reviews suggested I might get usable photos at 1/8s or 1/15s).
