This is due to the extra rubber grommet around the cable where it joins the USB Type C plug. Rest assured: it WAS OK! Fortunately the SSD was fitted with USB3 socket and I’ve successfully run it through a series of adapters For some years. It is convenient, elegant and most importantly it does not clutter up my desk with adapters.

After reading some reviews, I wasn't sure this would work, but for the price I thought I'd give it a try and I'm so glad that I did. Sadly, TB2:TB3 adapters are very expensive. The USB Type-C fits very snugly into the Macbook Pro and it is reversible, so you don't have to worry about putting the bottom or top into the Type-C port.

So I do not need an adaptor anymore! I still encounter USB 3 type “A” ports that don’t provide enough peak power for the bluray drive. File transfer speed is very fast and most importantly the type c cable fits perfectly for the port on macbook air M1 2020. I am using this cable on WD, SanDisk, Transcend, Seagate, Sony and Toshiba External Hard Disk Drives - works flawlessly.
