Unfortunately the set doesn't include AAA batteries (2 required) and no soil. The trays have no drainage so care is needed not to over water as the bowls will just then sit in stagnant water and start to smell. One of the fairy houses has a light which when activated plays a musical sound, the image on the product page shows the small acorn lanterns lit up but these are just glow in the dark, and need a bright light shone at them or sunlight to get any sort of glow.
The set would make a nice gift for younger children in which they can not only have some imaginative play but get to grow some plants. This small fairy village is one of many sets which could be all linked up. My daughter is just playing with it as it is without the plants she said they each have a swimming pool!
Given this is over £30 at time of writing this review and they've provided seeds its disappointing they didn't include some small compressed soil blocks or small bag of compost to save having to buy some, the cress will grow without but I doubt the grass will last long without soil and the nutrients it contains. The plastic is lightweight and a little bit fiddly so may frustrate some kids as items are placed rather than fixed so can easily be knocked.
The doors on the small fairy houses open but nothing inside, would have been nice if it had a miniature house décor to add to the magic. The bunting you have to make yourself by folding diamond shape stickers included over the string so may need some adult help with that depending on the child's abilities.
