Is the opening line on the back page synopsis. You don't want to be like other people. They were like me. And sometimes I feel things all at once. I see things that others do not. A story about friendship, courage and self-belief, Addie’s story was born from Elle’s own experiences of neurodiversity and her commitment to seeing greater representation in children’s books. I can't recommend this book enough, it was beautiful ❤️. She is passionate, she is strong, she is intelligent and she is just bloody brilliant.

Relating to being persecuted for being “different”, Addie sets about campaigning for a memorial in the town to remember all the women who were killed, but is met with disdain and resistance from the village committee. This book is such an important one, and I urge anyone to pick it up and read it, it may be small but it is mighty and it packs many emotional & eye opening punches that I think anybody would highly benefit from reading. There’s such a wide range of characters in the book which I found a real strength.

It made me emotional, made me hurt and then ultimately made me smile. It’s about time children started seeing positive representations of themselves and more diversity in books.

My bookworm life

It draws fiction to reality and thus allowing listeners to relate or empathise. Literally anyone could read this and take away something, that something being Kindness is key, and kindness, acceptance (even of the things you cannot always understand, compassion and kindness go a long long way! We or rather I haven’t been able to listen to another audiobook since and that’s 5 days ago!

It helps educate people about neurodiversity, it highlights how different the world can be perceived and experienced. Later, Addie starts campaigning for a memorial for the witches. Undeterred, she persists in her mission to be heard and seen, and represent these women she feels such a connection with. Miss Murphy, Addie horrid teacher, is always picking on Addie in school.
