I was hooked. ”Sinister, dark and unnerving, The Call of Cassandra Rose is a compelling debut that oozes an anxious tension from start to finish. This book was a slow burner for me but I soon became a invested in Annabelle's story and willed her to have a happy ending.

Emma's Biblio Treasures

Her different relationships with both Matt and Cassandra was equally enthralling . Hard to predict, it keeps you on your toes with its jaw-dropping twists and turns that hit like bolts out of the blue. She'd done the impossible: she'd helped me to escape.

When the reveal came about, I felt emotional, and honestly had that bad feeling inside as to what it all meant for the characters and families involved. In the story’s narrator, Annabelle, Spiers perfectly captures how it feels to be in the grip of the black hole of anxiety and depression, the fear, isolation and self-doubt of domestic abuse, the power of trauma and the overwhelming battle to fight the urge to self-harm.

Behind the facade lies a woman who is troubled resorting to self harming as a means of escape. Dark and twisted and with trigger warnings for self harm. She decides to try and get support on her self harming and her ‘irrational thoughts’ and finds a card in the house advertising Cassandra Claire who is a hypnotherapist, she signs right up.

I will definitely follow Sophia Spiers’ work in the future – she’s one to watch! You may have already seen the trigger warnings in other reviews but I want to say, its not a book for everyone, so tread carefully. Let me tell you, this book has all of the elements you want from a psychological thriller; unreliable narratives, an eerie atmosphere, a claustrophobic feel, a past shrouded in mystery, an unstable MC at her wits end, a creepy therapist and questionable hypnosis. Through a combination of good storytelling and duel timelines, Spiers creates this weaving narrative that leaves the reader compelled to find out what's around the next corner, it's so hard to put it down!

Anna

The story picks up when Cassandra enters as you learn more about Anna's past secret that she can't recall, and you really start to get a build up of the suspense, there is definitely a lot more action towards the end. * Please research any trigger warnings before reading * With a husband like Matt, a needy child, a housekeeper who thinks she’s the boy’s mother and a gaggle of hideous cliquey school mums, no wonder Annabelle felt she had no where to turn. She meets her husband who is a little older than her, he is wealthy and well presented, Annabelle fall pregnant very early into their relationship and they then marry.
