We might think we are all equal; some are definitely more equal than others. You will also worry about the cat. Really enjoyed this story of class divide, being on the outside looking in even as you are on the inside looking out, with dark secrets coming slowly to the surface and a particularly truthful finale that plays into the realities of the rich being different.

The most thought provoking aspect is how wealth and connections equals power. The weirdly stilted yet engaging main protagonist keeps you enthralled throughout and Elizabeth Day draws her characters with razor sharp precision allowing the reader to see what the storyteller does not.
