Pink Pigeon Original Rum Tasting Notes
The oldest distillery in Mauritius, the Medine Sugar Factory and Distillery have been in continuous operation since 1926. (You know times are bad when being "endangered" is a step up. Being in the southern hemisphere, the cane season runs from July through November. Palate: Custard to the fore, with a little toffee brittle, guava and cardamom. Molasses from the sugar factory is fermented and distilled into rum before some of the production is aged at the distillery. ) It was named for the Pink Pigeon, a bird that is native to the island and recently climbed from critically endangered to just endangered. Very sweet. Nose: Spiced, sweet and thick with molasses, cassia and hints of clove.

Is a lower priced rum at under £20 but doesn't taste cheap at all, I have even bought this as a gift for several rum loving friends as its not one you will find in the supermarket. Wow. !

It reminds me of the original Sailor Jerry. The bottle is also lovely, nice and slim so fits on a shelf easily, with a very funky label.
It is a very sweet rum with strong vanilla flavour, I taste the vanilla more than the other spices. I have it with coke and a slice of lime but you could even drink this one neat over ice.
First tried this rum in Edinburgh several years ago and fell in love. This is an amazing sipping rum! Really recommend the sweet vanilla-y flavour of this one, however if you don't like your rums sweet this one isn't for you.
