It's a very emotive read for sure and one that made me cry at the end when Aniyah finally accepts and acknowledges what happened to her mother. It was full of wonder,friendship and resilience. I think Onjali balances really well depicting domestic abuse without going into too much detail. !

The characters were well thought about,and the story is inspirational. Absolutely heartbreaking but an amazing read and one I will definitely recommend. I think it is so important to depict these sort of topics in children's books; they are the ones often affected by it and so it is important that they have outlets to read about it in which they understand it is not normal and not okay - but that emphasis the hope and how their lives can change. I just honestly love her writing and the way she depicts her characters; they feel real and they also show the goodness in people.

She could not put it down. She says it is a heart warming story,with an excellent plot and a shocking twist at the end. This book in particular really pulls at the heart strings and honestly just makes you gutted for the children. It's honestly so painful to read but I think it was done in a really sensitive way; the adults around her were supportive as were the other children (even Sophie who I thought was a bit of a devil throughout!
