The operation of the sharpener is simple. I've used this on about 30 pencils so far - granted not an exhaustive test, but I'm happy with it so far.

Just empty and reinsert. The sharpener sharpens standard 8mm pencils.

The point is long and more of the wood and lead is exposed compared to say a normal handheld sharpener which produces a stubby point by comparison. It will extend to a few inches, not recommended unless you have a 6" pencil you want to make into a 2" one! My daughter easily sharpens all her pencils in different sizes.
